This week I've graduated to this sexy beast, the Aero Commander 685. 435hp each side, 180 kts in the cruise.. mmm, mmm. Flew this sucker for 3 hours, cost me $1050.

Shortly after take-off, heading up the Hudson river at 1500 ft, we over the George Washington Bridge, the only bridge between Manhattan and New Jersey. Behind the bridge is the Bronx and Harlem.

Turning left on departure from Teterboro, heading for Boston's Lawrence Municpal Airport, you can make out Manhattan Skyline in the background.

This is the cockpit of the Commander. Pretty basic layout in this model. No GPS, or autopilot, or intercom. But there's enough switches and warning lights to make up for it. Gives you the feeling of flying a real plane for once.

Here we are, Alison, Merrill and Art, the owner of the aircraft and flying school at Teterboro before heading for Boston. They brought some beer and we stashed it in the cooler for a celebration drink after touchdown.
